Temperary Dual Monitor Setup

My little brother's computer hard drive fried so while he has been waiting for a new one, I borrowed his monitor. I got a very nice multimonitor called UltraMon. It allows for easy switching between monitors and lots of extra features. I want to get a new 20-22 inch monitor but I am still in the process of figuring out how because my parents will never go for the idea of buying another monitor just to have dual screen.

Wow, summer is half way gone

Between work and a personal Java project, I haven't been learning c++ at a steady pace yet. I have been working extensively on a GUI that is written in Java. Although the GUI is for personal use, I am planning on documenting the development of the project and using it for my senior project in high school. I also believe the mod team I was on died before production started but I do plan on holding onto the idea for later down the road.

More info on this GUI. This GUI will be used alone with a model conversion program. The current program doesn't have have any sort of GUI. The way the program uses information from the user is taking the information from a ..txt file the user edits in a special format. Once the .txt file is changed to use the information needed for the conversion, you need to put the .txt file in the same folder as the conversion program and a batch file. The batch file is used to take the information from the .txt file and input it into the conversion program. Once the batch file finishes moving the information, the batch file launches the conversion program and the conversion takes place. You will now have all of the new models in the same folder as the program.
This process is too complex for a new user, so I am writting this GUI to hopefully make the process less complicated and easier to do. I would like to in the long run, completely port the conversion program (currently written in C) to Java and implement the GUI into the program so there is even less confusion. That is far down the road.

That is my GUI so far. When it is finished, I will show/ describe all of its features.

No longer 'single' at the moment

After a post of mine was read on the Digital Paint 2 forums, I got a privet message asking me what I have wanted to do for a while now. This person asked me to join a mod team. All though, at the moment, I don't currently know enough of any programming language to help, the leader of the team doesn't either. We plan learn the art of game development and hopefully by mid summer are able to start developing a new, standalone quake mod. At the moment, we have only decided the theme of the game but in the next week, we plan on getting a list of everything we would like to see in the game as well as what we will need to pull this mod off (software). We also need to figure out what we need to learn so we don't waste time learning something that end up not using in the mod.
I will post more information about this soon as I am being very vague. Stay tuned!

Late Spring and Summer plans

As my Java class is school wraps up, with it, my Junior year in high school, I have began to think about my next coarse of action. I want to be able to start to help develop Digital Paint but there are so many routes to take, I took me a while to figure it out. I have finally figured out my plans for after school, with the help of a trusted friend. I want to know C++ but Digital Paint is programmed in C so I was at a cross road. My friend informed me that the best way to learn C++ is to learn C++ and then read through a quick tutorial to learn C and then figure out the differences between the two. It sounds like the best course of action so through the summer, I will begin to once again, learn C++. I will also learn the ways of 3dsMax and hopefully by the end of summer, I will begin to be an asset to the Digital Paint community. Its a while away but hell, got to think big some times.

Busy...

I haven't had much time at all to do anything of notable mention for the past month. Aside from wrestling and weight lifting twice a week and putting in 15 hours+ at work, I haven't had much time to learn anything more in 3dsMax. The Java class at school is going well, although at the slow pace, I am excelling at a faster pace. I am reading a Java tutorial book at night as a second source of information and I believe it is the reason for my faster learning pace. The book is called, Java Programming For Dummies and is a great Beginner to Intermediate Java tutorial.
On a totally unrelated topic, my Pre Calculus class is becoming more and more easy for me. I absolutely love math and it comes very easy for me. Pre Calculus is a little more different then Algebra but I have finally figured out how to understand it more and more and haven't gotten less then a 90% on any test. Hopefully this will help my College Transcript look even better as I will be applying to colleges as soon as my Junior year comes to an end.

Gaming and other stuff

I can't get enough of Call of Duty 4. I can play in a server for hours and still, not get enough of the action. When I can actually break away from my gaming sessions, my time is consumed in the installation of a wide variety of 3d Modeling tools, photo editors, and other asorted goodies.
I have finally finished and now I currently have:
-Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 express edition
-Macromedia Flash
-Macromedia Dreamweaver
-Macromedia Fireworks
-3dsMax
-Gmax
-Maya personal learning edition
-Milkshape 3d
-Blender
-Google Sketchup Pro 6

I know have six 3d modeling tools but after reading up on 3d modeling for games, I learned something new. Although these programs bloat my hard-drive of around 5 gigabytes, each tool has its own set of import / export tools. With these tools, I can learn the easiest of the 6 modeling tools and if I need to, export it and import into a different program to change the file format.
